WOW and thanks for so much fun Mary Kay. As an aspiring writer, I appreciate the dedicated, tough work a winner of a book like this takes. Being funny, especially throughout a novel, is a hard job but you accomplished it well. Your characters are each drawn so well, as their individual personalities come off just right - and realistically. (I want more D'John - just about all his lines made me laugh out loud.) I loved learning about fishing, tomato soup chocolate cake and vinegar pie. This is a book you'll pass along to your friend(s) while telling them "This will cheer you up!" BRAVO Mary Kay.

Deep Dish A Novel Mary Kay Andrews 9780060837372 Books Reviews

This is so fun! I remember book characters like some people recall times out with friends. I read this in a day — then Was sad because I read it all. Ever done that?
Like others, I loved all of Mary Kay Andrews previous books so couldn't wait to get my hands on her latest. However, while this one has her trademark style of writing it seemed more like a paint-by-the-numbers effort rather than anything new. So why is Deep Dish different from the others? I think its the lack of character development. I didn't get hooked on them as I usually do. I'm only hoping this one was a fluke and that like many other writers riding on popularity, this isn't just a push to get the next book out. If you are looking for a quick breezy read, this is still a good choice..just not her best. I wanted to give it four stars because its still better than most of the chick-light books out there, but because I was expecting much better from this author, I gave it three.
This novel incorporated all the best elements of a good romantic comedy movie and put them onto the page. The plotline was fresh - especially in this age of reality TV and the phenomenon of the Food Network - and the characters were rich and entertaining. There were several exchanges that had me laughing out loud.

I'm not giving the novel 5 stars because I would have liked to see a little more of the romance between the two main characters, Tate and Gina, starting earlier in the book. The beginning section, setting up the action that would come later, was also a little on the slow side.

But, once this story got rolling, there was no stopping it. I read the second two thirds of the novel in an hour and a half! All in all, it was a really fun read!
I loved this book great theme cooking and a contest full of love and adventure. Must read little romance in the kitchen
I love this author. Read everything by her. Fixer Upper maybe my favorite altho' I like the books with Weezie, too. This one didn't have the sparkle the others did. It was still a decent story, but lacked the spark that usually draws me into her novels. It was predictable, too much so, and I couldn't care that much about the main characters. The story does move along, good flow as all of her other books have had, too, but it never truly hooked me. I believe this may be one of her earlier novels. Ms. Andrews has most definitely grown as an author.
PS When Gina ends up with very short blond hair, I kept picturing Melanie Griffin as that character. She stayed with me the rest of the book.
If you want to combine likeable characters and quirky television cooking show nonsense with a cute romance, this is definitely the book for you. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from Mary Kay Andrews.
This is the first Mary Kay Andrews book I have not liked. Characters were harsh. Story did not gel together. One the the few books I could not finish. I made it 3/4 the way through and opted to stop. I just did not care how it turned out. Sad.
